Combat the growing problem of workforce obesity
Lost productivity and rising health insurance costs resulting from an increasingly obese workforce could be impacting your medical facility more than you realize.
An estimated 72 million Americans are clinically obese – an epidemic costing the country billions of dollars. U.S. employers alone are estimated to spend $93 billion annually in medical expenses stemming from obesity. They also experience indirect costs related to the epidemic. Lost productivity, for example, accounts for $3.9 billion per year in expenses, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Employers can take action, though. Those that institute wellness programs focused on exercise, nutrition and stress management will likely see improved worker productivity, decreased sick time and lower medical costs.
